Alt Codes for A With Accent Marks

Using the “Alt Codes for a with accent Marks”, you can type any of the “a” accented characters or symbols using your keyboard.

Alt codes are designed for typing symbols that do not have a dedicated key on the keyboard. You do this by pressing down the Alt key whilst you type the symbol’s alt code using the numeric keypad.

Small and Capital a with accent marks alt codes

Obey the instructions below to type the “a” letter with any accent mark over it on your Windows keyboard using the alt codes in the above table. Let’s illustrate by using capital A with the grave accent alt code (0192).

  • Step 1: Place your insertion pointer where you need to type the a with the accent mark.
  • Step 2: Press and hold one of the Alt keys on your keyboard.
  • Step 3: Whilst still holding on to the Alt key, using the numeric keypad, type the a with grave accent alt code (0224 for lowercase à and 0192 for uppercase À). You can refer to the above table for all the various a with accent alt codes.
  • Step 4: Release the Alt key after typing the Alt code to immediately insert the symbol.

Note that you must use the numeric keypad to type the alt code. You must also turn on your NumLock key to be able to use the numeric keypad. If you are using a Laptop that does not have the numeric keypad, you can press Fn+NmLk keys simultaneously to turn on the hidden numeric keypad for laptops with smaller keyboards.

Copy and Paste A with Accents

Use the following buttons to copy and paste the various a accented characters. After copying, switch over to your document and press Ctrl+V to paste the copied symbol.

a with an acute accent

The “a with acute” alt code is 0225 for lowercase (á) and 0193 for uppercase (Á). To type this, press and hold the Alt key whilst you press the a with acute alt code, then release the alt key.

a with grave accent

The “a with grave accent” alt code is 0224 for lowercase (à) and 0192 for uppercase (À). To type this, press and hold the Alt key whilst you press the a with grave accent alt code, then release the alt key.

a with two dots (Umlaut)

The “a with umlaut” alt code is 0228 for lowercase (ä) and 0196 for uppercase (Ä). To type this, press and hold the Alt key whilst you press the a with two dots alt code, then release the alt key.

a with tilde

The “a with tilde” alt code is 0227 for lowercase (ã) and 0195 for uppercase (Ã). To type this, press and hold the Alt key whilst you press the a with tilde alt code, then release the alt key.

The “a with caret” alt code is 0226 for lowercase (â) and 0194 for uppercase (Â). To type this, press and hold the Alt key whilst you press the a with caret alt code, then release the alt key.
