Where is Google Docs? (How to Open Google Docs)

Google Docs is an immensely popular word processing application. But despite its popularity, a lot of newcomers don’t know where to find or create a document in Google Docs.

So, they usually ask the question: “Where is Google Docs?”.

Here are some tips to help you get started with this amazing alternative to Microsoft Word.

What is Google Docs?

If you know what Google Docs is and you just want to know where you can locate and open this application, feel free to skip to the next section. If you’ve never heard of it before, here’s a brief introduction.

Google Docs is a free online word processing document offered by Google – to compete with Microsoft Word. It lets you create and format documents and work with other people online.

Google Docs is available on all smart devices and platforms. You only need an internet connection and a browser to access this cloud-based application (or the Google Docs app, in case of a mobile device).

Google Docs supports several different types of documents, including .doc, .docx, .txt, .rtf, and .odt, making it easy to convert and work with Microsoft Office files directly from Google Docs.

One of the cool features of this application is its ability to let you share and collaborate with different people on the same document, tracking revisions, changes, and suggestions all in real-time.

With that being said, let’s now look at how and where to find Google Docs.

Where is Google Docs?

Google Docs is on the cloud. If you need to open and work with Google Docs, you’ll need to access it through your internet browser or download the Google Docs app on your mobile phone, depending on the device you are working with.

However, it is a requirement to own a Google account before you can access Google Docs. Google Accounts are free, and signing up for one is a breeze.

NOTE: If you have a Gmail address, you already own a Google account, so you won’t need to create an account again – you can simply sign in to Google Docs using your Gmail details.

You’ll need to provide Google with some basic information to open you a free Google account, like name, date of birth, and location. When you open a Google account, Google will automatically give you a Gmail email address that you can use to access all the Google apps including Google Docs.

If you don’t already have a Google account, create one here.

Now that we have our Google account (or Gmail email address), let’s see how we can use it to access Google Docs.
